Technology

College preparatory schools such as Woodlands will increasingly be known as "information-age" schools. Just as employees in the modern workforce use computers to assist in their work, students at Woodlands use computers to assist in their learning. Technological tools are incorporated into the learning process as effective means for students to reach their goals.

The Goals & Criteria of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools supports the belief that technology plays an important role in education. The Goals and Criteria have guided the school in developing technology. Goal Two:

The school community embraces the idea that technology is an essential tool for the development of higher-level thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills that our students need to excel in society. We realize that as a single gender school we have a unique opportunity to attract young women interested in the fields of science and technology and to offer them the best education. In our information-age society, Woodlands recognizes the dynamic impact and potential of new and existing technology to enrich and enhance our students' learning experiences.

Technology is an integral part of the educational process at Woodlands enhancing the dynamic learning environment in every subject:

  • Woodlands boasts a ratio of 1 networked computer for every 2 students.
  • Every classroom has at least one computer with readily available Internet access, and a multimedia presentation unit.
  • Every teacher has a dedicated computer for his/her use.
  • The Residence has its own on-line computer center.
  • We have two state-of-the art computer labs equipped with color scanners, poster-size color printer, and laser printers and SmartBoard technology.
  • The Woodlander, and the yearbook, L'Esprit, have up-to-date desktop publishing software and the latest scanning and printing equipment.
  • Multimedia presentations are common throughout the school utilizing SmartBoard Technology, LCD projectors, CD-ROMS/DVDS, PowerPoint presentations, laser disk players as well as VCRs.
  • Our own Library has 9 student computers with access to the Internet databases as well as an extensive collection of CD-ROM resources.
