The Learning Program at Woodlands Academy, under the direction of Mary Ann Salemi, and assisted by Marilyn Fincutter and Alyse Poteshman, is designed to provide supportive services to a limited number of students with mild, diagnosed learning disabilities. There are about twenty students in this program each year, depending upon need and enrollment. The students meet with the learning program staff on a one to one or small group basis four times per week.
The students are mainstreamed in all of their classes. Learning specialists collaborate regularly with faculty members, providing assistance and recommendations depending on each student's learning needs. We also assist our students in developing the learning strategies and self advocacy skills they will need not only as students, but as part of the larger, adult community. We seek to motivate our students to be active participants in their learning process.
Regularly scheduled sessions provide the girls with remedial and tutorial assistance.
Effective delivery of services in the secondary school setting requires organizing
and implementing a variety of strategies and methods to address individual needs.
