Goals and Criteria

As part of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools, Woodlands Academy commits itself to the Goals and Criteria of the Sacred Heart. These five principles form the foundation for education and development at Woodlands and at every one of the Sacred Heart Schools in the Network. The Goals and Criteria express the values, intentions and hopes of the Sacred Heart tradition.

Sacred Heart Foundational Principals

  1. In the Goals and Criteria, the Society of the Sacred Heart defines the mission of the school as part of the Society's educational mission in the Catholic Church.
  2. Each school is accountable to the Society through the Sacred Heart Commission on Goals for adherence to the Goals and Criteria.
  3. Each school's Board of Trustees and Administration establish and uphold policies that are consistent with the Goals and Criteria.
  4. The school allocates its resources to support each Goal and its Criteria.
  5. The school is in compliance with professional standards as stated by accrediting agencies.

Sacred Heart Goals

  • a personal and active faith in God;
  • a deep respect for intellectual values;
  • a social awareness which impels to action;
  • the building of community as a Christian value;
  • personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom.

The Goals and Criteria recognize issues in Sacred Heart education that have challenged women for over 200 years: tradition and change; continuity and transformation; society and the individual. The principles of the Goals and Criteria, lived dynamically from generation to generation, embrace change as an opportunity as well as a starting point for transformation. Through them, Sacred Heart alumnae, students, and faculty have an appreciation for their potential and their call to participate in the reshaping of society.
